]]>Let’s be real. When it comes to glamming up, us girls love a good ol’ safe bet like flattering and timeless black, or soft and delicate pastels. But if this there’s one moment you get to make a statement, it’s in your prom dress. So go vibrant and colourful in one of 2014’s hottest prom dress trends: eye-catching neons and bright hues.
Colourful dresses have always been on the prom scene, (we’ve all seen those shiny pink bubble skirt from the 80’s). But now with a sleek and modern twist, the trend is back, and this time the brighter, the better.
Think sunshine yellow, cool mint and captivating coral – whatever colour best suits your complexion. Mix these striking hues with diamanté and sequin accents, and you’re all set to steal the show on your big night.

]]>So if you want to be on the cutting edge of couture for your upcoming prom and still look elegantly chic, here’s the first in our series of 2014 Prom Dress Trends.
Lace is no longer what your gran wears on special occasions – it’s making a comeback in a big way. It’s super-feminine, delicate and is the perfect way to show some skin and still look classy on prom night.
Something you can’t miss with this trend is how the lace makes a statement. Instead of being used as a small detail, it makes the dress. From high lace necklines to lace-covered corsets, this is a surefire way to steal the spotlight.

]]>Finding your dream prom dress is one thing, but deciding on what hairdo to go with is a whole new ball game. Besides your gown, your hair will also be the main focus, and can make or break your entire look. Just keep these simple rules-of-thumb in mind when it comes to co-ordinating tresses with dresses and you’ll definitely be the belle of the ball.
The Lace Dress: go for a romantic, loose updo to complete this classic look.
The Halter Dress: if you need to, add length with extensions and go for a high fishtail braid.
The Deep V-Neck Dress: part your hair to to the side and go for a fake long bob (lob) with plenty of waves.
The Mermaid Dress: keep it timeless and gorgeous with side-swept waves.
Chiffon Dress: complete this romantic look with a low and feminine chignon.
The Backless Dress: go simple and sultry with voluminous waves to keep your back the focus.
The One Shoulder Dress: keep your hair up and your dress the focus with a big ballerina bun.
Turtleneck Gown: Pull your hair into a sleek ponytail to highlight your neck.
Strapless Dress: Complete this dress with the right accessories and low, volumised bun.
Sweetheart Neckline: Go for a rock-chic and elegant pumped up ponytail.
But beauty, prom dresses and hairstyles aside, the most important element that will take your whole look to the next level is comfort and confidence. If you’re feeling good, it will show on the night and in all the photos.

]]>There are many things that make us women so incredibly amazing, and one of them is our gorgeous figures. From tall and athletic to short and voluptuous, we come in all shapes and sizes. And despite what the fashion capital catwalks usually stick to, being stick-thin is not always in. No matter what size you are or what shape you’re in, it’s all about knowing what you’re working with – and rocking it!
That’s why we’ve put together this easy rundown on how to choose the right dress for your body type. So before you glam it up a notch for your next night out, use these tips to find that perfect dress that will make you feel your confident best.
The Hourglass: Lucky you! This is the shape we all want: a slim waist with full, womanly hips. For your shape, it’s best to choose a dress that highlights your waist and shows off your curves. For this, your best bet is to go for a gown with a band or contrasting fabric around the waist to emphasise that to-die-for waistline.
The Pear Shape: So you’re petite on top and a little fuller around the bottom. Evening dresses with a natural waist or an a-line shape, or bubble skirts are the way to go. Emphasise your shoulders and arms in something sleeveless, and draw attention to your neckline in v-necks and sweethearts.
The Apple Shape: If you have a full bust and slimmer lower half, the perfect evening dress is one with support in the bodice. Balance out your body with an A-line dress that’s nipped in at the waist and flows out at the hips to give balance. Thicker straps can help give lift to your bust or an empire waist dress will put the focus on your best feature without over-accentuating the ‘girls’.
The Fuller Figure: To rock what your mama gave ya, a cinched in waist, ruching and flowy skirts are looks that will give you instant confidence! Both structured and flowy fabrics work really for your shape. It’s best to go with straps or sleeves for bust support and a v-neck or sweetheart to show off your neckline!

]]>So pull up a full-length mirror, close the door and start practising these super-slimming poses.
Put your best foot forward: Facing the camera, turn sideways ever-so-slightly. Put one foot in front of the other – and aim your toe on your front foot to the camera and place your weight on your back foot.
Arms out: Hold your arms slightly away from your sides, or put one hand on your hip. This keeps upper arm flab from pressing against your body and appearing flabbier than what it actually is.
Posture, posture, posture: Like your mom always said, pull your shoulders back, your chest out and gently hold your tummy in – but don’t hold it in too much, or it will show and look unnatural.
Gorgeous jawline: To minimise the appearance of a double-chin, slightly stick your head out for a slimmer neck and jawline.
The ‘Look Away’: As the name says, look away from the camera, then turn towards it and smile just the moment the camera clicks. Your smile will appear fresh and natural.
Start practising with a few of your closest friends. It’ll be a laugh initially but the posing prac will pay off.

]]>Well… it could all be in your skin tone. When it comes to dressing up, your skin can be your best accessory – because certain colours can make your skin look incredible. It’s just about getting it right. With this quick how-to, we’ll have you dressing for your skin tone for your next night out.
Dark Skin
Stick To: warmer colours. Think deep purples, soft pinks, any shade of yellow – or our favourite: gold, bronze or coppers. As long as it’s in the warm side of the spectrum, you’ve got it spot on.
Avoid: black or brown dresses – cool colours (think blues, silvers, greys).
Your Best Bet: dark-skinned girls can rock white like it’s nobody’s business.
Medium Skin
Stick To: jewel tones, these are the rich colors that resemble gems like emeralds, rubies, sapphires and amethysts. Blues – from navy to royal, bright and richer pinks as well as greens are really flattering on your complexion.
Avoid: brown, beige, caramel, orange and very pale pastels in any colour.
Your Best Bet: go bold and colourful to really make your complexion pop.
Olive Skin
Stick To: any shade of green, from bright lime to natural olive, green is what will bring out your naturally warm tones. Think red: cherry red and rose look great too.
Avoid: unlike other complexions, olive-skinned girls can pull off pretty much any hue. Lucky.
Your Best Bet: bring out that natural glow with pinks.
Fair Skin
Stick To: think any shade of green – from olive to grass, emerald or lime. Navy blue or grey will flatter fair skin. Try reds – strawberry or deep red, raspberry and deep purple, all of which can bring out a hint of colour in your cheeks.
Avoid: steer clear of neon colours, white or black which don’t do much for fair-skinned girls.
Your Best Bet: jewel tones work wonders – especially emerald (green), turquoise and amethyst (purple).

]]>So to keep the compliments coming on a big night out, we’ve put together a list of ten effortless ways you can look glam and feel sensational.
Get glowing: Radiant skin is your best accessory. Lightly sweep a highlighting powder under your eyes and across your cheekbones for instant radiance.
Show some skin: If you’ve got it, flaunt it. A bit of modesty goes a long way but don’t hide those gorgeous legs or toned arms. Tip: Apply a shimmering body lotion for some exciting sparkle.
Less is way more: When it comes to makeup, it’s best to play up one feature. So whether it’s your eyes or lips, highlight one (not both) and keep the rest simple.
Beautiful brows: They may be small, but they make a huge difference to how you look. Keep your eyebrows groomed and neat because they can make or break your look.
Rock that updo: Keep it chic with a tousled bun or a modern, neat ponytail. Easy, stylish and oh-so-elegant.
When in doubt: Not sure of what to wear? Why not black. A timeless LBD (little black dress), or a long flowing number always make a statement.
Red-alert: Another classic you can’t go wrong with: red nails. Don’t forget to apply a base coat to prevent your nails from being stained pink.
Make a statement: Big cocktail rings have a major impact. And because they’re affordable, you can get them in a range of colours to match your dress.
It’s all in the detail: Bring your outfit to life with a few, well-chosen pieces of jewellery. Here, less is more too – as Coco Chanel once said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory.”
Go bold or go home: Another instant-glamoriser is a great pair of earrings. For those glam nights out, get a pair that catches the light for major wow-factor.
Now that you’ve applied these simple rules, all that’s left to do is get ready for a flood of compliments. Go get ‘em, girlfriend!
